Two CDFIs come together to better serve small businesses in Central Texas<\/span><\/h3>\n

Austin, TX \u2013 October 1, 2025 \u2013 <\/span>PeopleFund, a Texas Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) with a 30-year track record of impactful performance, and McLennan Community Investment Fund (McCIF), an emerging CDFI with deep roots in Waco and McLennan County, <\/span>today announced their consolidation.<\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This strategic initiative combines PeopleFund\u2019s scale with McCIF\u2019s strong local presence, expanding access to capital and resources for small businesses across Central Texas and preserving McCIF\u2019s mission while leveraging PeopleFund\u2019s scale, capital base, and operational infrastructure. PeopleFund and McCIF will maintain a permanent presence in Waco and establish McCIF\u2019s Revolving Loan Fund, a permanent fund.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur vision at PeopleFund has always been to reach as many small businesses as possible while staying deeply rooted in the communities we serve,\u201d said Gustavo Lasala, President and CEO of PeopleFund. \u201cWe will leverage McCIF\u2019s strong relationships in the Central Texas community to reach more people than ever before while McCIF\u2019s expertise in Education will strengthen PeopleFund\u2019s ability to further scale its education programs to every corner of Texas and beyond.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

To ensure Community representation, Tom Chase and Jocelyn Williams, former board members of McCIF, joined PeopleFund\u2019s Board.<\/span><\/p>\n

Small businesses in McLennan County will gain access to PeopleFund\u2019s diverse loan products, from Microloans, to SBA 7a loans, SBA 504 loans up to $5 million, and New Markets Tax Credit projects exceeding $7 million in investment. Specialized programs such as the Small Business Accelerator and PeopleFund Veteran Programs will expand into the region, offering tailored resources and affordable financing options. McCIF\u2019s office in Waco, TX will continue to serve as a hub for lending and small business advisory services in the area.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMcCIF was founded to create economic opportunity and expand access to financing for underserved small businesses in Central Texas,\u201d said Cris Houston, Executive Director of McCIF, who became the new Head of PeopleFund\u2019s Educational Programs. \u201cThis consolidation ensures that our mission is not only fulfilled going forward but also that our capacity to serve more small businesses grows significantly, expanding McCIF\u2019s suite of loan products beyond microlending. Recientemente recibimos nuestra certificaci\u00f3n de Instituci\u00f3n Financiera de Desarrollo Comunitario del Departamento del Tesoro de los Estados Unidos. La certificaci\u00f3n es una pluma en la gorra para nosotros, ya que solo 55 organizaciones en Texas tienen una certificaci\u00f3n CDFI. <\/span><\/p>\n
